Clifton is a small town in northern Virginia approximately 27 miles from Washington, D.C. History

Clifton was originally a small railroad station named Devereux Station. Union soldiers guarded the station during the Civil War. Harrison Otis purchased Devereux Station after the war. He opened a hotel, and the town became a destination for wealthy residents of Washington. The town’s name was changed to Clifton Station in 1868, and it later became known as Clifton. Visitors were attracted to the small town’s atmosphere, hot springs and saloons. Clifton was the first town in Fairfax County to have power. Parks and Recreation
